Nottingham Forest Netball were edged out 62–57 by Cardiff Dragons in a closely contested Netball Super League clash, with the visitors pulling away in the third quarter before holding off a late Forest fightback. First Quarter Forest made a confident start in front of their home crowd, settling quickly into the contest and matching Dragons goal-for-goal in the opening exchanges. In attack, Forest’s shooting circle looked assured early on, with Rolene Streutker converting reliably under the post and Smith working tirelessly to create space on the edge of the circle. Through mid-court, Brie Grierson played a key role in feeding the circle with accuracy, helping Forest maintain a smooth attacking flow. Defensively, the goal defence and goalkeeper combined well to apply early pressure, forcing a handful of errors and disrupting Dragons’ rhythm. The quarter remained tight, with little separating the two sides at the first break. Second Quarter The second period continued in a similar vein, with Forest showing resilience to stay in touch. The centre was particularly influential during this spell, driving through court and linking play effectively between defence and attack. Forest’s defence stepped up again, with key interceptions and tips slowing Dragons’ progress. Jayda Pechová made her presence felt in the circle, contesting strongly and forcing less comfortable shooting opportunities. In attack, patience remained key. Forest worked the ball carefully into the circle, with both shooters continuing to convert at a solid rate to keep the scoreboard ticking. At half-time, the margin remained narrow. Third Quarter The turning point came after the break, as Dragons increased their defensive pressure and began to disrupt Forest’s attacking rhythm. Forest’s mid-court faced greater pressure bringing the ball forward, and although Grierson continued to work hard to find space, turnovers began to creep in. At the other end, despite continued effort from the defensive unit, Dragons capitalised on their opportunities. Forest’s shooters still showed composure when given chances, but a slight drop-in conversion rate, combined with Dragons’ clinical finishing, allowed the visitors to build a crucial lead heading into the final quarter. Fourth Quarter Heading into the final period, Forest responded with renewed intensity. The defensive unit once again stepped up, with the goalkeeper and goal defence combining for important turnovers to give their side a chance to close the gap.
