Launched in 2019, the Onside project now runs in 27 schools across Merseyside and north Wales, supporting and guiding young people through workshops that address teamwork, problem solving, self-belief, leadership and communication. One of those schools is Kirkby High School and recently, Liverpool defender Joe Gomez went along to see the project in action for a BBC Match of the Day community feature. "Liverpool Foundation work with small groups of students and we really see the impact of the work they do with the attendance, the engagement and the outcomes of the students that participate," said Kirkby High School headteacher Anna Dobson. The Onside project is made possible by the Premier League and PFA Players' Fund. Administered through the Premier League Foundation, the funding helps football clubs to tackle inequality and respond to local challenges, supporting people and their communities to be more inclusive.
