Nottingham Forest Women picked up a point against Newcastle United in the Barclays WSL2 on Sunday afternoon. Head Coach Carly Davies made two changes from the win against Durham, as Chloe Mustaki and Kirsty Smith came into the side for the injured Jessie Stapleton and Georgia Brougham. Newcastle United dominated the early stages with two early efforts on goal, but the Reds repelled the Magpies’ attempts. Forest took the lead as Alana Murphy pounced on a goalkeeper error to score her first goal for the club. Emily Batty made a sensational save from point-blank range to preserve the lead for the Reds going into the interval. Half-time: Newcastle United 0-1 Forest Women The home side made a quick start to the second period, with an early effort on goal saved by Batty. The Magpies continued to enjoy the majority of the play, but the Reds remained resolute at the back and prevented any clear opportunities. An awkward-looking cross was caught in the wind, with Batty at full stretch to keep the ball out of the net. Jordan Nobbs eventually found a way through the Forest defence in the North East, beating Batty from distance to ensure the points were shared. Forest are back in action on 26 April with a trip to Portsmouth. Full-time: Newcastle United 1-1 Forest Women
